On Nov 25 to 27 Hume and Hovell travelled 32 miles across the hilly ridge county on the southern edge of the Oxley Plains. The plains which they described as very fine land were dotted with grass fires and they kept to the highland to avoid the smoke. Their trek is more southerly than the cycle route but crosses our ride at about the junction with Watchbox Track and after joining Tiger Hill Rd. Their camp sites were on Meadow Creek, Fifteen Mile Creek below Mt Bellevue and Hollands Creek near the Tatong Monument. Here they had little grass for the cattle. The dogs were fed flour, spoilt, when Hume’s horse fell into a creek earlier in the day.
Traditional owners of the lands you will traverse are the Taungurung peoples.
